Name: Demonstration of Micro Midget Race Car
Date: May 5, 2019
Time: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
This is a 1950's era micro midget race car powered by a modified Cushman motor scooter engine. The car was built by david Harms in 2018 from plans published in 1955 in Science and Mechanics magazine. These cars were raced on 1/10 and 1/8 mile dirt tracks under the sanction of the Peoria Illinois Micro Midget Auto Club. Tracks were located in Peoria, Bloomington, Towanda, McComb, and Galesburg. The cars also ran at the Heart of Illinois Fair and in the winter inside Bates' Barn which is now the Heart of Illinois Horse Arena. All the cars had to be built by the owners at that time since no manufactures of chassis or other components existed. Parts were salvaged from auto scrap yards, junk yards, or whatever could be found. These cars are the great grandfathers of the modern mini sprints powered by 600cc motorcycle engines.
